Stock Market Shows Signs of Recovery from Downtrend

The country's stock market is showing signs of a turnaround after a prolonged period of decline. On Wednesday, both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw an increase in share prices and transaction volumes, continuing the positive momentum from the previous day's significant rebound.

Following the trend of the previous trading day, on Wednesday (September 16), the prices of shares and units of most companies increased in the main stock market, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). As a result, both markets saw an increase in their price indices as well as transaction volumes.

Earlier, due to a continuous decline, DSEX, the main price index of DSE, fell to its lowest position in three and a half months on Monday. In response, the stock market witnessed a significant rise on Tuesday. On that day, DSE's main price index increased by 93 points.

Continuing this upward trend, trading on DSE began on Wednesday with an increase in the prices of shares and units of most companies. Consequently, an upward trend in the index was observed from the very beginning of trading. As this trend continued throughout the day, the list of rising prices remained long at the end of trading, and the day's trading concluded with the price index in an upward state.

At the end of the day's trading, a total of 180 companies across all sectors on DSE recorded an increase in their share and unit prices. In contrast, the prices of shares and units of 153 companies decreased. And 62 remained unchanged.

Among good companies, or those that paid 10 percent or more dividends, 79 saw their share prices rise. In contrast, 95 saw their prices fall, and 20 remained unchanged. Among medium-sized companies, or those that paid less than 10 percent dividends, 32 saw their share prices rise. In contrast, 26 saw their prices fall, and 16 remained unchanged.
