He made these remarks at a press conference of the 11-party alliance held around 11 AM on Tuesday (September 15) at the National Food Village in Hatikumrul area of Sirajganj. They held this press conference to implement the long march program from Dhaka to Rangpur on September 19.
Criticizing the BNP government, Azharul Islam said, ‘We have repeatedly told the BNP to implement the people's verdict. But they have deceived the people's verdict by not taking the oath of the referendum. Now they are not implementing it under various pretexts. We have repeatedly walked out of parliament to press for this demand. But they are not paying heed. That is why we have taken to the streets.'
He said, ‘We have announced a Dhaka-Rangpur long march demanding the implementation of this public verdict. We hope the government will respect the people's verdict and implement it.'
During this time, Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General and Opposition Chief Whip Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, along with the Ameers and Secretaries of Sirajganj, Natore, and Bogura district Jamaat, were present.
