14 Injured in Clashes Between Supporters of MP and State Minister

Fourteen people were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP supporters in Panchagarh. The incident, involving workers of an MP and a State Minister, occurred on Sunday night, September 13, and led to significant traffic disruption on the Panchagarh-Tetulia national highway.

The incident took place at MR College intersection on Tetulia Road in the district town from 10 PM on Sunday (September 13) until deep into the night. At least 14 people from both sides were injured.

Among the injured, nine were admitted to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital. Four were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Locals reported that a chase, counter-chase, and clash began when supporters of Barrister Naushad Zamir, Member of Parliament for Panchagarh-1 constituency, marched from Tetulia bus stand area and encountered supporters of State Minister for Water Resources and MP for Panchagarh-2 constituency, Farhad Hossain Azad, who were positioned at MR College intersection. At one point, activists from both sides took to the highway with sticks and threw bricks and stones. At least 14 people from both sides were injured in this incident.

The incident spread panic in the area and halted traffic on the Panchagarh-Tetulia National Highway for about two hours. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road. Later, police intervention brought the situation under control, and traffic resumed normalcy.

It is learned that tension and commotion began among the activists of the two groups during an exchange of views meeting at the district BNP office on Sunday morning, in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid, centering on a speech. Since then, resentment had been brewing among party activists. The clash between the two groups at night was a result of this.
