A thrilling chase-and-counter-chase incident unfolded between a gang of robbers and the police in Araihazar Upazila, Narayanganj. The confrontation began late on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the Jalakandi area of the Araihazar-Bishnandi road. Upon receiving information about obstacles being created on the road for the purpose of robbery, patrolling police officers arrived at the scene, where the robbers began pelting stones at them. To bring the situation under control and in self-defense, police fired 4 rounds from a shotgun. Unable to withstand the police firing, members of the robber gang quickly fled the scene.

According to police sources, a group of organized robbers was active in the Jalakandi area in the late hours of Sunday night. They were planning to create barricades by felling trees at strategic points on the Araihazar-Bishnandi road to hold pedestrians and vehicles hostage and commit robberies. Upon receiving information from local sources, patrolling Sub-Inspector Humayun and three constables, led by Gopaldi Investigation Center In-charge Mukhlesur Rahman, quickly reached the spot. Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the robbers immediately turned aggressive and began pelting stones indiscriminately at the police officers.

In the initial phase of the confrontation, police officers faced some resistance due to the robbers' sudden attack. However, swift action was taken to ensure their own safety and that of the public. Gopaldi Investigation Center In-charge Mukhlesur Rahman provided detailed accounts of the incident, stating that the situation was rapidly deteriorating as the robbers continuously pelted stones at the police. In such circumstances, the police decided to use shotguns to defend themselves and disperse the robbers.

Police fired 4 rounds, which created panic among the robbers. Disoriented by the sound of gunfire and the firm stance of the police, the robbers took advantage of the darkness and surrounding bushes to quickly flee the scene. Although no robbers could be apprehended in this incident, the police's immediate response is believed to have prevented a major robbery. No casualties were reported from the police firing.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station, Md. Sabjel Hossain, confirmed the incident. He stated that immediately after the event, police launched extensive search operations in Jalakandi and its surrounding areas. Multiple police teams are working to identify and swiftly apprehend the members of the robber gang. The OC further noted that the police are on high alert and patrols have been intensified to ensure road safety and prevent such criminal activities.

This incident has created a mixed reaction among the general public in the Araihazar area. On one hand, there is a sense of relief due to the police's prompt action in preventing the robbery, while on the other hand, the audacious nature of the robbers' activities has raised new questions about the law and order situation in the area. Local residents stated that robberies on this road at night are not new, and they have concerns about their safety. They have demanded more intensive night patrols from the police and the permanent eradication of robbers.

The police administration has stated that ensuring public safety is their primary goal. The police are always vigilant in combating crime in Araihazar Upazila. OC Md. Sabjel Hossain emphasized that the police are determined to bring the members of the robber gang to justice. He urged locals to promptly inform the police about any suspicious activities or criminal acts, so that effective measures can be taken against the culprits.

Following this incident, police surveillance has been further increased on the Araihazar-Bishnandi road. Particularly at night, regular patrols and checkpoints have been established to search vehicles, ensuring that no criminal syndicate can become active again. Law enforcement agencies hope that the members of this robber gang will soon be apprehended and brought to justice, thereby maintaining peace and security in the area.
