40 More Arrested in Connection with Awami League Procession Incident in Gulshan

Police have arrested 40 more individuals in connection with a sudden procession by Awami League activists in Gulshan, bringing the total number of arrests to 74. The incident involved participants allegedly throwing cocktails at police, who then dispersed the crowd using rubber bullets.

On Sunday (September 13), Deputy Commissioner of Police Md. Akhtar Hossain of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) provided this information.

He said that the DMP arrested 40 participants in the Gulshan procession on Saturday (September 12) night.

Earlier on Saturday, Akhtar Hossain had informed that 32 direct participants in the procession had been arrested.

Additionally, Gulshan Police Station had reported the detention of two individuals from the scene during the procession. This means a total of 74 people have been arrested.

On Friday (September 11) afternoon, 150 to 200 leaders and activists gathered and held a sudden procession in the alley adjacent to KFC on Road No. 3, Gulshan Police Station area. When police attempted to disperse them, the processionists threw cocktails at the police.

Later, to control the situation, police fired two rounds of rubber bullets to disperse the processionists, said Md. Daud Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station.

At that time, Daud Hossain said, Arafat and Abdur Rahim, who participated in the procession, were detained. Five live cocktails were seized from them. He also stated that the procession lasted for approximately 30 seconds.
