Chattogram Range Police conducted a coordinated and extensive special operation, arresting a total of 487 individuals in the last 24 hours. During this operation, 100 people were apprehended in anti-drug activities, and 387 for involvement in various criminal and other offenses. This successful operation, conducted from Friday morning to Saturday morning, also resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of narcotics, indicating the police's strong stance against crime in the Chattogram region.
Chattogram Range Police has released detailed information about the 100 individuals arrested in the anti-drug drive. Among them are 28 identified drug dealers, 2 drug couriers, and 98 drug users. Several of these arrestees also face charges for multiple regular cases and other serious offenses, indicating the depth of their criminal activities.
The quantity of drugs recovered in the anti-drug operation was significant. Police seized 45,126 pieces of Yaba, 41 liters of local liquor (cholai mod), 27 kg 903 grams of cannabis, 120 bottles of foreign liquor, and 10 Tapentadol tablets. The recovery of such a large quantity of drugs proves how active and stringent the police are in suppressing illegal drug trade.
As part of the anti-drug operation, mobile courts took immediate action, sentencing 81 drug offenders to various terms of imprisonment. Additionally, BDT 9,400 in fines was collected during this drive, and 27 separate drug cases were filed. These measures highlight the swiftness and effectiveness of the legal process in combating drug offenses.
Alongside the anti-drug operations, police arrested 387 individuals for involvement in various other crimes. Among them are 108 in regular cases, 47 in previous cases, 29 under Section 34 of the Police Act, 2 under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 60 under Section 151 and other sections, 122 on warrants, and 19 on conviction warrants. These statistics illustrate the multifaceted efforts of the police in maintaining law and order.
Regarding this special operation, Chattogram Range DIG Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury commented, “This special anti-drug operation will continue in the public interest.” His statement reflects the police's unwavering commitment to combating crime, especially in eradicating drugs.
