Rumin Farhana, an independent Member of Parliament elected from Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, has stated that there are no decent ways in this parliament. She added that the behavior observed in parliament yesterday (Wednesday) can in no way be considered democratic.
She said, someone can give a counter-statement after my speech. But yesterday, from around me in parliament, I was subjected to abusive language. This does not fall within parliamentary norms.
She made these remarks on Thursday (September 10) while speaking on the Armed Police Battalion Bill.
Rumin Farhana said, in a parliament, there are government parties, opposition parties, and independent Members of Parliament. Each will have a different opinion. When I stood alone in this parliament and spoke against the Awami League in 2018, I faced terrible opposition. I see no point in the opposition merely pretending to be opposition and sitting there just to vote in favor of this (government).
Rumin Farhana said yesterday, 'This parliament is so intolerant, it feels as if we have returned to the Awami League era. When we used to speak against the Awami League, they would also create a commotion. Now the BNP is exhibiting similar behavior.'
