Regarding the cause of the five-story building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan Market area, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that excavation work was ongoing in the basement of that building.
She visited the accident site on Sunday afternoon.
She informed that excavation work was ongoing in the building's basement, which caused the pillar to shake and the building to collapse.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta told the media, "This is a very tragic accident. All agencies are working. Eleven people have been rescued. The most important thing for us is to save the lives of the children who are likely still trapped inside. Whoever is responsible for this accident, be it the building owner or any official, will be brought to justice."
She said, "This was an old building and renovation work was ongoing. Due to excavation work in the basement, the pillar shook and the building collapsed. This building was operating as a PG (Paying Guest) accommodation."
Meanwhile, Additional DCP Abhimanyu Poswal stated that three children died in the accident, and details of the building owner are being verified.
