The examination results for two departments of the Honours second year at the government seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) have not yet been published, despite nearly seven months having passed. This prolonged delay has generated significant anxiety and uncertainty among students, as they have already completed their third-year in-course and test examinations even before the second-year results were released. Students from the Botany and Geography & Environment departments are victims of this result crisis, still unaware whether they have passed or failed their second year.
It has been learned that the Honours second-year examinations for these two departments began on December 1, 2025, and concluded on February 17 of the current year. The failure to receive results after nearly seven months of waiting has led to growing frustration among students. They state that such a delay in result publication is having a severely negative impact on their academic lives. Specifically, they are unable to make concrete decisions regarding preparation for subsequent year exams, taking improvement exams, or retakes.
Students complain that if the notification for the third-year main examinations is issued before the second-year results are published, the situation will become even more complicated. Mohammad Moinuddin, a student of the Geography & Environment department at Dhaka College, expressed his concern, saying, “If the results aren't published, how will we know whether we need to take improvement exams? There's always a natural apprehension of poor results after every exam. It's time for our third-year exams to begin, yet the main results for the second year haven't been published.”
Tawsif Khan, a student of the Botany department, expressed similar frustration, stating, “Our second-year results haven't been published yet, but the notice for the third-year main examinations could be issued at any moment. This has put us in extreme confusion. Our third-year test exams are also over, meaning we are now supposed to sit directly for the final exams. However, without receiving the previous year's results, we are not even sure if we have actually been promoted to the next year.”
When asked about the reason for this delay in result publication, Bithia Sanchita Samaddar, Head of the Botany Department, stated that they are regularly in communication with the relevant authorities regarding the matter. She mentioned that discussions on this issue took place last week as well, and the authorities are trying to publish the results quickly. However, she could not provide a specific timeline.
Enamul Kabir Mia, Head of the Geography & Environment Department, cited several possible reasons for the result delay. He explained that such complications often arise if a teacher evaluates exam papers and then travels abroad or is delayed in returning. Additionally, this year, Dr. Nazmul Huda, the departmental head of the relevant department at Dhaka University and a representative of the affiliated colleges, passed away suddenly. A new person has recently taken over his responsibilities, which he believes might also prolong the administrative process.
Regarding this matter, Dr. Himadri Shekhar Chakraborty, Controller of Examinations at Dhaka University, stated that it is not possible to specify a date until the results are officially received. However, he learned from a phone conversation with the committee president that efforts are being made to submit the results as quickly as possible. This statement has further frustrated students, as it offers no concrete ray of hope.
Academics and guardians believe that such administrative complexities should be resolved promptly, considering the students' future academic lives. Such prolonged delays in result publication are increasing students' mental stress and disrupting their academic activities, which raises questions about the quality of the country's higher education system.
