Md. Belal Hossain's contractual term as the highly important Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has been extended for another year. A gazette notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday (August 25, 2026), which will ensure continuity in the top leadership of a large organization like LGED, dedicated to the country's infrastructure development. According to the notification, Md. Belal Hossain has received this contractual appointment under Section 49 of the 'Government Service Act, 2018'. One of the key conditions of this appointment is that he will suspend his unavailed Post-Retirement Leave (PRL) and all related benefits. Simultaneously, he must relinquish all work relationships with any other profession, business, or government, semi-government, or private institutions or organizations. These conditions ensure that he will fully concentrate on fulfilling LGED's responsibilities and that his experience and expertise will be utilized to the fullest for the welfare of the country.
The newly appointed Chief Engineer, Md. Belal Hossain, has been accorded Grade-1 status, which is among the highest ranks designated for senior government officials. This status recognizes his qualifications, experience, and long-standing contributions to LGED. Previously, on July 19, he was promoted to Grade-1, marking a significant step in his career. Although he was scheduled to go on his Post-Retirement Leave (PRL) on August 31, this contractual appointment means he will lead LGED for another year.
Md. Belal Hossain's career at LGED has been exceptionally long and successful. On January 14 of this year, he assumed the position of Chief Engineer (routine duty) as an Additional Chief Engineer of LGED. Subsequently, on February 10, he was given the current charge of Chief Engineer. This continuity is expected to be instrumental in implementing LGED's various ongoing projects and future plans.
LGED plays a pioneering role in the development of rural infrastructure in Bangladesh.
