Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a long march from Dhaka to Chattogram and a rally at Lal Dighi Maidan on September 5, 2026, demanding the implementation of a referendum verdict and the establishment of people's democratic rights. Muhammad Nazrul Islam, a central executive council member and Ameer of Chattogram Metropolitan Jamaat, urged people from all walks of life to make this important program a success. He made this call on Tuesday (August 25) evening at a special executive council meeting held in the conference room of the Jamaat office in Dewanbazar, Chattogram, where detailed discussions took place regarding the organizational preparations for the program and widespread public involvement.
This special executive council meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami's Chattogram Metropolitan branch was a crucial step towards the successful implementation of the September 5 long march and rally. Muhammad Nazrul Islam himself presided over the meeting. In his speech, he described this announced program of the 11-party alliance as highly significant for establishing the people's just demands and democratic rights. During the discussion, special emphasis was placed on maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment for the program, as well as ensuring the spontaneous participation of people from all strata.
Muhammad Nazrul Islam, in his speech, highlighted the necessity of promptly implementing the referendum verdict. He stated that it is an essential part of respecting the democratic aspirations of the people. Jamaat considers the implementation of this verdict extremely important for establishing political stability and the rule of law in the country. Concurrently, he demanded ensuring impartial and fair trials for all genocides, noting that this is crucial for establishing justice and preventing the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The Jamaat leader demanded swift and effective measures to improve the overall law and order situation in the country. He emphasized an end to narrow partisan politicization at all levels of administration, which he deemed essential for establishing good governance and impartiality. Stating that ensuring the safety of people's lives and property is a fundamental duty of the state, he added that in the current situation, ensuring this security is a major challenge for the government and one of the people's primary expectations.
Concerns were also raised at the meeting regarding economic crises affecting people's daily lives. Muhammad Nazrul Islam stated that the uncontrolled rise in commodity prices has made the lives of ordinary people unbearable. Low and middle-income individuals are suffering severely due to the continuous increase in prices of essential goods like rice, lentils, and oil. Furthermore, crises in basic services such as electricity, oil, and gas are causing extreme hardship in public life. He urged the government to immediately take effective, realistic, and sustainable measures to resolve these crises.
Muhammad Nazrul Islam instructed party leaders and activists to play a united and responsible role in making the September 5 long march and Lal Dighi Maidan rally a success. He stated that this program is not just for Jamaat but is a movement for the liberation of the entire populace. Therefore, people from all classes and professions, irrespective of their political affiliations, were urged to participate spontaneously in this program and raise their voices to achieve their just demands.
In addition to Muhammad Nazrul Islam, the special executive council meeting was attended by other important leaders of the Metropolitan Jamaat, including Central Majlis-e-Shura member and Assistant Secretary Principal Maulana Khairul Bashar, Muhammad Ullah, Faysal Muhammad Yunus, Metropolitan Assistant Ameer Morshedul Islam Chowdhury, Metropolitan Organizing Secretary Principal Shamsuzzaman Helali, Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, and S. M. Lutfor Rahman, President of Workers' Welfare Federation Chattogram Metropolitan. They discussed all aspects of the program and provided necessary guidance for its successful implementation.
