Recently, DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam clarified this strict stance, stating that severe fines and legal action would be taken against those who violate the law by dumping waste on city streets, footpaths, or any open spaces. He unequivocally declared that no excuses would be considered acceptable in cleanliness activities, and any slightest proven negligence of duty would result in disciplinary action as per regulations.
Administrator Abdus Salam made these remarks last Tuesday (August 25, 2026) at an important coordination meeting held at Nagar Bhaban. He chaired this meeting, which included members of the waste management, mosquito control, and waterlogging mitigation oversight committee, sanitation inspectors, and relevant officials. In his speech, he emphasized urban cleanliness as one of the fundamental responsibilities of the city corporation, stating that any complaints regarding cleanliness or undue delays in waste removal anywhere in the city would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He warned that failure to remove waste within the stipulated time or proven negligence of duty would lead to strict accountability and punishment for those concerned, as per service rules.
This strict message applies not only to DSCC staff but also to all city dwellers. Warning residents against indiscriminate littering, the Administrator stated that no one would be given the opportunity to pollute the environment. He explicitly declared that those who violate the law by dumping waste on streets, footpaths, or open spaces would face fines and other legal actions as per the law. The main objective of this initiative is to build a clean, healthy, and livable Dhaka city where citizens can live comfortably.
At the meeting, the DSCC Administrator placed special emphasis on ensuring regular and intensive monitoring at the field level. He instructed officials to resolve citizen complaints as quickly as possible and to enhance effectiveness by increasing mutual coordination among the waste management, mosquito control, and waterlogging mitigation teams.
