A severe clash has erupted between two factions in the Akkach Ali Mor area of Golzarmondol's Dangi, Northchannel Union, Faridpur Sadar Upazila, over drug consumption and establishing dominance. Local police were attacked while attempting to bring the volatile situation, which occurred last Friday night, under control. An agitated crowd vandalized a police pickup van, causing widespread commotion in the area. Two critically injured individuals have been rescued and taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
According to local and police sources, the conflict originated on August 14. On that day, local youth Shakil and a few of his friends consumed Yaba in the Golzar Mondol's Dangi area. Oman expatriate Tulu Mia and three to four of his associates, including Sumon, recorded a video of this scene. Subsequently, Tulu Mia and his group demanded a large sum of money from Shakil using this video, which created underlying tension between the two parties and sowed the seeds of conflict.
Following this demand for money, Shakil's people asked Tulu Mia to come to the spot to collect the money. As soon as Tulu Mia arrived, Shakil's faction beat him and eventually handed him over to the police. Police rescued Tulu Mia from the scene, provided preliminary treatment, and then took him to the police station. Later, with the mediation of local dignitaries, the matter was resolved, and Tulu Mia was released. While this action temporarily calmed the situation, the resentment and power struggle between the two factions simmered beneath the surface.
As a result of the previous incident, last Friday around 5:30 PM, Tulu Mia, accompanied by approximately 15-20 motorcycles and their riders, paraded through Golzar Mondol's Dangi and Akkach Ali Mor from the nearby Mohammadpur area. During this display, they assaulted two individuals, local grocer Bakkar Shikdar and Mannan, who were involved in the earlier incident, before leaving the scene. This event quickly spread among Bakkar Shikdar's faction, further escalating the situation and igniting a desire for revenge.
As news of this assault quickly spread among Bakkar Shikdar's faction, they became extremely agitated. Unable to find Tulu Mia at the scene, in a fit of rage, they assaulted his father, Raja Mia (70), and local Joynal Shikdar (65), both elderly men. At one point, several hundred agitated individuals held these two critically injured men hostage, creating extreme tension in the area and deteriorating the law and order situation.
Based on this information, local police quickly arrived at the scene and attempted to rescue the injured Raja Mia and Joynal to take them to the hospital for treatment. However, the agitated local crowd obstructed the police and eventually attacked the police vehicle, tearing its curtains and snatching the car keys. The police pickup van was extensively damaged in this attack by the agitated crowd, hindering normal police operations.
Subsequently, local dignitaries, additional police personnel, and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station arrived at the scene and, after prolonged efforts, brought the situation under control. The injured Raja Mia and Joynal were then rescued and sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Regarding this matter, statements from Bakkar Shikdar and Tulu Mia could not be obtained as their mobile phones were switched off. However, a local individual named Mintu Mridha stated that Tulu Mia, despite living in Oman, occasionally returns to the country to try and establish dominance. He further mentioned that Tulu Mia committed Friday's incident and then departed for Oman again on a 10 AM flight on Saturday.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, Md. Mahmudul Hasan, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred between two factions due to various issues, including local dominance and drugs. He reported that during the incident, police were attacked, and the pickup van was vandalized, resulting in extensive damage to the vehicle. A case is pending regarding the obstruction of police duties. However, neither of the two parties has yet filed a complaint at the police station, and no one has been arrested in connection with the incident so far. This event has sparked renewed discussions about the law and order situation in the area and has created concern among locals.
