Tanim Rahman Angshu's 'Limbo' Surprises with 'Laapataa Ladies' Screenwriter Biplab Goswami Joining the Team

National Film Award-winning filmmaker Tanim Rahman Angshu is poised to open new avenues of possibility in Bangladesh's film industry. After a long hiatus, he is returning with his highly anticipated feature film, 'Limbo'. Since the release of its first-look poster, the film, set to be an unparalleled blend of cosmic romance and space drama, has generated significant public curiosity. The filmmaker has now heightened that anticipation further by announcing that Biplab Goswami, the acclaimed screenwriter of the Bollywood sensation 'Laapataa Ladies', has joined to write the screenplay for 'Limbo'.

After the release of Aamir Khan-produced 'Laapataa Ladies', Biplab Goswami gained overnight stardom for his exceptional writing. His talent and experience are now expected to open new horizons in Bangladeshi cinema. Tanim Rahman Angshu himself confirmed this news on social media. He stated that the core strength of a film lies in its story. To present that story to audiences on a larger scale and with greater depth, an experienced and talented writer like Biplab Goswami has been brought into the 'Limbo' team, which further elevates the significance of this project.

Angshu, in his post, emphasized the importance of storytelling, writing that if a story doesn't touch the heart, then the dazzling lights or enchanting melodies of a film feel dull. This applies to OTT platforms, dramas, and music videos alike. Even during the making of his National Film Award-winning movie 'No Dorai', his primary focus was to craft a flawless and perfect story. At that time, the responsibility of the story was entrusted to Shyamal Sengupta, whose pen gave us timeless narratives like 'Buno Haansh', 'Lost', 'Ontohin', and 'Oporajita Tumi'. Now, for 'Limbo', this new journey has begun with an international-standard writer like Biplab Goswami to bring the story to life on an even larger canvas.

'Limbo' is set to be a space drama and cosmic romance film, an entirely new experience for Bangladeshi cinema. Tanim Rahman Angshu firmly asserts that Bangladeshi cinephiles have never before seen a film made on such a backdrop or subject matter. He is particularly determined to offer audiences a new and unforgettable experience through the film's visual effects (VFX) and the depth of its story. It is being crafted not merely as an entertaining film, but as a work of art that will provoke thought.

According to the filmmaker's plan, 'Limbo' will be produced as an international-standard film on a grand scale. For this, he intends to shoot the film in three different countries, which will further enhance its production style and technical aspects. Additionally, the filmmaker aims to showcase the film at various prestigious film festivals worldwide before its commercial release in Bangladesh, enabling it to represent Bangladeshi cinema on the international stage and reach audiences globally.

Explaining his return to filmmaking after a long hiatus of six to seven years, Tanim Rahman Angshu stated that he had several screenplays under his planning during this period. However, he was searching for a project that would be extremely challenging and whose story had never been filmed in Bangladesh before. He always loves to create new genres, and 'Limbo' is a reflection of that aspiration. It is a new test of his creative self, where he aims to do something outside the conventional norms.

Referring to 'Limbo' as one of the most challenging projects of his career, Angshu stated that while making such a space drama in Bangladesh might seem impossible at first glance, as a filmmaker, he has embraced this very challenge. In his opinion, accepting such challenges is the work of an artist, which inspires them to create something new. This indomitable spirit and courage have motivated him to embark on an ambitious project like 'Limbo', which could set a new milestone in the country's film industry.

Earlier, during the release of the film's first-look poster, Tanim Rahman Angshu wrote an emotional message. He said, "No matter how many light-years the distance, the pull of familiar feelings never fades. In the boundary between emptiness and fullness, stories of loss and reunion become one." This quote hints at the core theme of 'Limbo's cosmic romance and space drama. This distinctive space drama is planned for theatrical release in 2027, which will bring an end to a long wait for audiences.
