A unique initiative has been undertaken to encourage and honour the country's future women football stars. Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Member of Parliament for Tangail-5 constituency and State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, has presented traditional Tangail handloom sarees as gifts to the footballers, coaching staff, and team management members participating in the final phase of the JFA Under-14 Women's Youth Development Program. Through this unique gift, Tangail's rich heritage and culture have been showcased to guests arriving from various parts of the country, alongside the sporting event.
The primary objective of State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku's initiative is to show special respect to the young women footballers who have come to Tangail from various districts of the country to play. Simultaneously, it aims to introduce Tangail's glorious history of weaving and cultural heritage at the national level. One of the main goals of this event was to foster an interest in local culture and traditions among young players, alongside sports, which is expected to serve as a memorable experience in their future lives.
Already, this special gift has been presented to approximately 110 players, coaching staff, and team management members from five teams that have been eliminated from the competition. Besides the State Minister, Advocate Ali Imam Tapan, President of the Tangail District Football Association, and local political and sports personalities were present at the gift distribution ceremony. They extended greetings and congratulations to the guests as they handed over the sarees. Such initiatives play a significant role in fostering a positive attitude among young players.
The semi-final stage of the tournament is currently underway. In the first semi-final held on Friday, Rangpur District team secured their place in the final by defeating Magura District women's football team 4-0. In the second semi-final, the host Tangail District team will face Rangamati District team. The players and associated members of the team that gets eliminated from this match will also be presented with traditional Tangail handloom sarees as gifts from the State Minister, thus maintaining the continuity of this unique event.
Women footballers and their associated team management members, who have come from various parts of the country, expressed deep delight upon receiving such a unique and heartfelt gift. They stated that receiving traditional Tangail handloom sarees amidst the competition and excitement of sports was an extraordinary experience for them. They consider it not just a gift, but an unforgettable memento of Tangail's hospitality and culture. This will undoubtedly be regarded as a special moment in their sporting careers.
Regarding this, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku expressed his views, saying, "Those who have come to Tangail to play, and everyone associated with them, are our guests. It is our moral duty to host them and show them respect. With that thought, we have undertaken this initiative to gift traditional Tangail handloom sarees. Through this, we not only want to spread Tangail's tradition and culture to various parts of the country but also want to further encourage students in sports so that they can bring fame to the nation in the future."
